Step Two: Connecting to an IRC network.
Once you have your client installed, you need to tell it where to connect. Here, we will use mIRC as an example, as it is the most widely-used Client. When you start the program, a dialog box will appear, or you can select it from the options. It will look something like this :
(1) In the IRC Server option you need to select DynastyNet . The basic configuration settings for DynastyNet are included with the mIRC program. If you are not using mIRC, the settings are:
Server: irc.dynastynet.net
Port: 6667
(2) In the Full Name and E-Mail fields, you can use your name, or nickname, and your email address. Note that neither of these have to be real, if you do not want others on the net to know your identity.
(3) In the Nickname and Alternate fields, choose a nickname (or handle) that you want to use for IRC Chat. You may also specify and alternative in case your first choice is already taken by another user.
*** Connecting to chaos.ma.us.dynastynet.net (6667) <-This is the server you are connected to.
OK ! You're almost there. now click the Connect to IRC Server button if you're using mIRC, or a similar connect button for most other clients. If you do not see a connect button, or are using a text-based client, you may use the following syntax to connect to DynastyNet:
/server irc.dynastynet.net
Now.. you should see a screen much like the following. we'll go over it. step by step:
-chaos.ma.us.dynastynet.net- *** Looking up your hostname...
-
-chaos.ma.us.dynastynet.net- *** Checking ident...
